Obituary:
STEELE George Joseph Steele 83, slipped his earthly bonds on June 21, 2010. George was born September 30, 1926 in Columbus, OH to his father, George Steele and. mother, Clara Margaret Faulhaber Steele. He is preceded in death by both his parents, along with his younger bother Don. He graduated from Boardman high school (OH) in the class of 1944; in which he was the class president. He served in the navy in the South Pacific in WWII. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Administration in 1949and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He married Barbara Ann Simpson on July 1, 1950. George was a loving husband and father. His wife of 59 years, Barbara and his three children and their spouses survive him: Margaret Ann and Gordon Odell; George and Peg Steele; and Thomas Steele. Also by grandchildren Laura and her husband Marc; Hilary and her husband Herbert; and Brennan and Andrew; and by his three great grandchildren: Sebastian, Felix and Jack. George worked for the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 29 years and Cardinal Foods for 11 years in sales. During this time he and his family lived in Altoona, PA; Cleveland, OH; Youngstown, OH; Pittsburgh, PA, and Columbus, OH. Upon retirement he volunteered for 10 years at a local food pantry. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing golf, with a regular Saturday morning tee off time, for many decades, at Minerva Lake golf course. He has been a member of the St. Timothy’s Parish for the past ten years. Previously, he and his wife were members of St. Anthony’s Parish for over thirty years. Visiting hours will be 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High St., Worthington, OH 43085. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June, 26 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church., 1088 Thomas Lane, Columbus, OH 43220. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N. High St., Lewis Center, OH 43035.
