Obituary:
Jerry A. Tischer, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2010. Born to the late Gene Tischer and Erma (Roderick) Tischer of Galion, Ohio. He graduated from Galion High School, Class of 1963, where he held many longstanding basketball records. Jerry graduated The Ohio State University in 1967 with a Bachelors of Business Administration and played varsity basketball (1964-1967). After graduating, he proudly served his country as First Lieutenant in the United States Army with active duty in Seoul, Korea. Jerry retired as a Vice President of Columbus Gas of Ohio after a successful 33 year career, where he lived in many cities within Ohio (Columbus, Fremont, Mansfield, Toledo) and Richmond, VA. Jerry was very active in both his community and church. He served on numerous boards including Jamie Farr Kroger Classic, Northwest Ohio Foodbank, and Greater Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of Powell United Methodist Church. In addition to being an avid golfer, Jerry also enjoyed fishing, cooking and playing the piano. Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda of 42 years, his children Eric (Janetta) of New Albany, OH; daughter Meghan (Michael) Tomechak of Lewis Center, OH, brothers Richard (Charlotte) Tischer, Galion, OH; James (Brenda) Tischer, Centerville, OH. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Scarlett Tischer, Riley, Reece and Addison Tomechak, Trey Saltzman and Erica Dillon. Friends may pay respects from 2:00-5:00pm SATURDAY at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio 43065. (614) 792-1471. (The funeral home is located on W. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750 ¼ mile east of Sawmill Parkway.) Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. SUNDAY, June 20, 2010 at POWELL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 825 East Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio 43065 (1/4 mile west of S.R. 315). Burial services will be held 2:00 p.m. MONDAY at Amboy Cemetery, Assumption, Ohio. Those wishing to make memorial contributions should consider the American Heart Association, 5455 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214 or Powell United Methodist Church, in Jerry's memory.
