Obituary:
Phyllis J. (Wareham) Waugh, 58, of Powell, Ohio, died graciously on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at home surrounded by family amidst a courageous battle with cancer. Phyllis had just completed 35 years as an educator with the Gahanna-Jefferson School District. Teaching was her life-long passion and throughout her life and career she touched many lives. She will be sorely missed. Phyllis earned her Bachelor degree in education in 1975 from The Ohio State University. She proceeded to earn her National Board of Education Certification in 2001 and her Master of Education Degree in 2001. She also had her Permanent Education License for Grades 1 through 8. Phyllis is preceded in death by her father James A. Wareham, Sr. and mother Leona Wareham Hoover, step-father J. Edward Hoover and father-in-law Elbert L. Waugh. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert J. Waugh of Powell; and her precious daughter, Sarah W. Waugh of Powell and Wittenberg University. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Mildred M. Waugh of Springfield, OH; brothers, James A. (Nancy) Wareham, II, David (Kathy) Wareham of Ft. Myers, FL; sisters, Karen (Robert) Browning of Yuma, AZ, Nancy (Richard) Hall of Galion, OH; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joe and Nancy Sodders of Springfield, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 at The Powell United Methodist Church, 825 East Olentangy Street (Powell Rd., S.R. 750, 1/4 mile East of S.R. 315), Powell, OH 43065, where a reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gahanna-Jefferson Education Foundation "Phyllis Waugh Fund" for underprivileged students, 160 S. Hamilton Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230.
